Fixed: Dell iDRAC6 SMTP Email Alert Settings

Goal: get email notifications sent from a Dell Poweredge with iDRAC6 when a server issue occurs.

Problem: "Email not sent." is the message displayed after clicking Send Test Email.

Solution: 

1. iDRAC Settings > Network/Security > Enter your DNS Domain Name (ex. yourdomain.com)
2. iDRAC Settings > Network/Security > Set DNS Servers (this is so external SMTP domains can be translated)
3. Apply
4. System > Alerts > Click Enabled for Enable Platform Event Filter Alerts
5. Apply
6. System > Alerts > Email Alert Settings > Enter destination email and Email Description
7. System > Alerts > Email Alert Settings > Enter in either your internal email server or external email relay. iDRAC 6 does work with external email relays outside of your organization.
8. Apply
9. System > Alerts > Email Alert Settings > Click Send to Test E-Mail

A successful email will be sent:

Subject: Alert from iDRAC

Message: [DELL IDRAC WARNING]
Message: TEST PAGE
Event: Email paging test to user.
Date: 10/11/2019
Time: 13:41
Severity: Info/Normal

7/7/2010 :: 1and1 Email server is down...Yes, again

Yes, this is getting repetitive, but I'm going to post it anyway to keep track of 1and1's down time.

For the past few hours, their email service has been offline, which means you won't be able to send/receive mail. Maybe you'll be one of the lucky ones to receive, but you won't be able to send. Emails that you try to send may end up disappearing because their servers aren't working. You could try logging into their webmail.1and1.com, but it may be bogged down from the flood of users. Don't even try to call because you won't get through. (I've tried.)

If it's any consolation, email their billing dept at billing@1and1.com to respectfully complain and request a credit to your next billing cycle. They will give you a credit on your account.

7/2/2010 :: 1and1 mail server problems

Hi folks, 1and1's email servers go haywire again. This is like the 4th time this year. I dreaded calling their technical support, but I had to because it looked like my client was missing email from 8AM-10AM. Guess what, another annoying 10 minutes dealing with 1and1 technical support. They confirmed their email servers were having issues and that their admins were "on it." Thumbs up to the admins though, I can imagine it being tough working at 1and1. I will contact their complaints department to get a credit for the next billing cycle. End rant.

BTW: On a funny note, while calling tech support, they were playing Portal's ending song Still Alive. Kind of odd calling into tech support and hearing the lyrics "dead, still alive, dying, burned," lol. Bravo to one cool admin out there.

1and1 Email Exchange Server Goes Down 5/8/2009 - POP, SMTP, Webmail Offline

UPDATE: MAIL SERVERS ARE BACK UP AS OF FRIDAY, MAY 8TH, 2009 11:00AM PST

1and1 Internet's email exchange servers are down as of Friday, May 8th, 2009 morning. We tried calling their technical support line, but their phone lines jammed up with other callers trying to call in for information. As a customer, it's frustrating not having updated information on the status of their service. Hey 1and1, how about using your own blog service to create a blog to update customers? Anyway, 1and1 provided good service for us in the past, so hopefully this doesn't happen again any time soon in the future.
