7/7/2010 :: 1and1 Email server is down...Yes, again

Yes, this is getting repetitive, but I'm going to post it anyway to keep track of 1and1's down time.

For the past few hours, their email service has been offline, which means you won't be able to send/receive mail. Maybe you'll be one of the lucky ones to receive, but you won't be able to send. Emails that you try to send may end up disappearing because their servers aren't working. You could try logging into their webmail.1and1.com, but it may be bogged down from the flood of users. Don't even try to call because you won't get through. (I've tried.)

If it's any consolation, email their billing dept at billing@1and1.com to respectfully complain and request a credit to your next billing cycle. They will give you a credit on your account.

Update 7/14/2010: You can check 1and1's server status at http://status.1and1.com Thank you mortalwombat for the info.

  1. Thanks for posting this. I am all sorts of upset about this right now. I just spent a fair amount of time with support, getting no answers. "There is no estimated time to have this fixed" they have been saying all day. After finally demanding to speak to a supervisor and being placed on hold, the tech comes back saying they just heard from the administrators that the problem would be solved in 24 hours. after again demanding a supervisor and being placed on hold, the tech came back yet again saying it will be fixed in 3 hours. again I demanded a supervisor and got all sorts of excuses why I shouldn't talk to a supervisor. Finally, after much demanding, i got a supervisor who wouldn't admit to an ETA on getting this fixed. Apparently the 24 hour and 3 hour time-line I was given earlier was complete BS to try to get me off the phone.

    They will credit my account, which is hardly enough to offset the loss in revenue from not being able to conduct business, but it's something I suppose. On another note, they created a site to handle the complaints. status.1and1.com.

    Does anyone know a decent host I can switch to? I am really close to being done with 1and1.

  2. Hi there, sorry to hear about your experience today. I'd say every 1and1 customer has had the dreaded "1and1 tech support phone call," which oftentimes ends up with the customer hanging up frustrated. 1and1 could be a whole lot better if they tried.

    Anyhow, check out hostgator.com for your hosting needs. From what I've read, they have a lot of positive reviews.
